Did you know 1 in 5 children ages 13-18 have, or will have a serious mental illness? Mental illness knows no boundaries. Essentially everyone is affected by mental illness at some point in their lives, whether it be directly or indirectly through family, friends and even at work. That is why this May, the Lincoln County Mental Health Coalition is observing Mental Health Month, by offering a free Youth Mental Health First Aid Class.

The class will be offered on May 16 and 17 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the Tomahawk High School Library, 1048 East King Road (Door #6), Tomahawk WI. Class instructors are Christine Peterson, M.S.E. Ed.S., Tomahawk School Psychologist and Allie Libby, LPSC, Merrill High School Counselor.

Youth Mental Health First Aid participants will gain knowledge of common mental health challenges for youth and learn strategies to help youth in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

The training is free and open to individuals that live or work in Lincoln County. Space is limited to 30 participants per class. Must be 18 years old to participate. Dinner will be provided.
